In-Text Variation in the Use of Lexical Bundles in a Corpus of Research Articles in Public Health

Abstract This article seeks to contribute the body of research on formulaicity academic written English by adopting a text-internal perspective use lexical bundles across four main rhetorical sections (i.e. Introduction, Method, Results, Discussion) articles in public health. The corpus linguistic approach was adopted explore section-coded 200 papers published high impact journals with aim identifying salient shared and section-specific 4-word bundles, calculating their respective frequencies as well classifying them structurally functionally. results show that Method is most formulaic section, containing greatest number including those frequent ones. also differ extent which they exploit distinct structural functional categories fulfill individual communicative needs.
